Most of the history we associate with the "1960s" comes in the second half of the decade and focuses on counter-cultural and social revolutionary aspects. When people think of the 1960s, they think about the "new, exciting, radical, and subversive events and trends of the period which then continued to developed in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and beyond". This is an important history and we will spend significant time talking about it, but this week I want you to focus on the following:
-Rise of feminism
-Space Exploration
-Automobiles
-Inventions
-Decolonization of Africa
-1960 US presidential election
-1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion
-1961 first wave of US troops in Vietnam (700 in 1961, 12,000 in 1962, 16,300 in 1963)
-1962 Cuban Missile Crisis
-1963 Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech
-1963 JFK's assassination
-1964 Bay of Tonkin Incident
-1964 US presidential election
-1964 Civil Rights Act
-1964 Wilderness Act
Research all fifteen terms/concepts, but choose only seven to write about in a new blog post. This assignment is due on 11/4.
