1960s Terms: 1964 Civil Rights Act

1964 Civil Rights Act: hey used to be kept from going to certain restaurants or bathrooms or buses and they were tired of this so some people made this Civil Rights Act. The Beatles

    The Beatles were formed in Liverpool, England, in 1960. They have become one of the most popular bands in history. The group includes John Lennon (1940-1980), Paul McCartney (1942-), George Harrison (1943-2001), and Ringo Star (1840-). They mostly play 1950s rock and roll, but, later on they worked in many other genres ranging from folk rock to different types of pop.
    For three years before 1960, Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, a man named Stuart Sutcliffe and a man named Pete Best started the Beatles and became well known in Liverpool. In 1961, Sutcliffe left and Best was replaced by Starr in 1962.
    With their first hit single ''Love Me Do'' in 1962, The Beatles attained UK popularity. Even after almost forty years after thier brakeup, The Beatles' music is still popular. They have more number one albums on UK's charts then any other musical group.
    The Beatles broke up after 10 years, in 1970. McCartney and Starr are both still alive, but Lennon was shoot and killed in front of his wife and other people in 1980 and Harrison died of cancer in 2001. Although they have been broken up for a long time now, The Beatles' music is stilled listened to and well loved.

1960s Terms: Wilderness Act

1964 Wilderness Act:
On September 3rd, 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Wilderness Act. It protected around nine million acres of federal land. This is important becuase if this land was not proptected, we would not have woods or fresh air for our lungs. 1960s Terms: 1964 US presidential election

1964 US presidential election:
The United States election of 1964 was the sixth most lopsided election in the history of the United States. Lyndon B. Johnson became president after JFK's death and then ran for re-election.  He got 44 out of 50 states to vote for him. 1960s Terms: 1963 JFK's assassination

1963 JFK's assassination:
On November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas, President John F. Kennedy was assasinated. The shooter, believed to be Lee Harvey Oswald, was murdered before he had the chance to go to trial. This was important becuase JFK and his family were very well liked. Also, the United States had to choose another person to$ be President just right after they chose JFK. [

1960s Terms; 1963 Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech

1963 Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech:
On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech entitled ''I Have A Dream''. This speech was about the need to put an end to discrimination and racial inequality. This speech was delivered in front of 200,000 civil rights supporters at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. and is considered to be one of the grestest speeches in human history. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Have_a_Dream]

1960s Terms: 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis

1962 Cuban Missile Crisis:
During the Cold War, in 1962, The Soviet Union and Cuba allied against America. Cuba is only 70 miles off of the coast of Flordia, a US state, so when the US saw that Cuba had Soviet Union missles in it they tried to get them removed. In the end, Soviet Union and the US agreed to have the US remove their missles in Afganistan if the Soviet Union would remove their missiles in Cuba. [
